Worship
I have a confession to make. I love church, I love the people, I love Sundays and I love the kingdom. But I wasn’t really looking forward to starting up church again this year. Eek! Am I even allowed to say that!?
You see, our beautiful little church meets in a not so beautiful little school classroom. It is messy, painful to pack away and then put back in just the right spot, hot in summer, cold in winter, old, has bright fluoro lights and terrible acoustics. In fact, we can’t even use our sound system in it because it would be such overkill for such a small space.
We’ve been moved in there temporarily (for about 12 months) while our regular meeting place is renovated and boy, has it been a long few months so far! I don’t know if everybody else struggles with it as much as I do but being a worship leader and a somewhat creative person, I love to create an atmosphere in church…a place that inspires us towards heaven. Sigh. In this place it is nearly impossible, no, it IS impossible, to physically do that. And because it’s hard physically, it makes it harder spiritually.
BUT! God has really been speaking to me once again about small beginnings. In Zechariah 4 it says, ‘Who dares despise the day of small things?’…gulp! It also says ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.’ And, in more ways than one, that is what we cling to as a church.
Even though our surroundings are humble, if we usher our people towards the Spirit, revelation will come and amazing, life-changing things can happen. If we walk with the Spirit, heaven will come to US!
So if you too are in a season of small beginnings, can I encourage you to not despise them…maybe we can uncover the blessing in it and learn to love them together!
