What’s New?

As we begin 2011 it is with a sense of anticipation and excitement. I am really looking forward to having the opportunity this year to continue some of our mentoring relationships begun in 2010 - to grow these to a deeper level, and to continue to support these children. In the long term, it is the goal to have sufficient numbers of mentors to partner with a child all the way through their primary years. How fantastic would that be??!! In the short term though, we are limited by the number of available mentors coupled with the needs of new children coming into the school. We will therefore, keep relationships going for as long as possible – for a minimum of one year, and thereafter until another child with an even greater need takes priority. What a privilege it is for those of use continuing in mentoring roles this year to be able to continue positively impacting the life of a child! A big thankyou goes to David, Richard and Debbie for your ongoing commitment to these children.

I am also really excited to welcome two wonderful young men to the Kids Hope team! Last year, ALL the children involved in our Kids Hope program were boys, and the need for positive male role models is very high – with both the older and younger children. Chris and Ben will be beginning as mentors this term, and I know they’ll both bring loads of energy and enthusiasm to the role and be much loved by their Kids Hope kids. What a privilege it is to be able to be a positive influence in a child’s life –for some children the only positive role model!

I’d also like to offer thanks to Elise, Krystal and Tish who were a part of the Kids Hope Team in 2010, but are unable to continue in the role this year. They began a wonderful new season in the lives of their mentored children, and two of these boys have now been matched with new mentors to continue the journey. Please pray for them as they begin getting to know each other.

After my meeting with the Deputy Principal, I can now confirm that we will have six children on the program to begin 2011– all of whom are continuing from last year and have progressed significantly as a result of their mentor relationship. Just imagine what can happen with the ongoing support of someone who cares for and believes in them!

Sadly though, this does not mean that all the children in need of a mentor have one. There are many other children in the school who could benefit from being part of Kids Hope, but I am especially seeking a mentor for a little girl who is just beginning year four. She desperately needs the love and care of a mentor, so if you might be that person I would love to hear from you. All it takes is one hour a week to make a difference to this child!!

Till next time….

Blessings,

Jenny
